A useful AI agent is not a chatbot reciting an FAQ. With Deep Agent Studio, it is an agent that understands requests even when poorly worded, verifies identity by SMS when needed, checks your systems (invoice, order, CRM) and fixes the issue — or hands off to an advisor with full context. Here is the exact method to go from zero to a first live agent in 15 minutes.
What you need before you start
Bring three things: one priority intent (billing, for example), one starting channel (WhatsApp Business is enough) and a procedure written the way you would explain it to a new hire. Do not target ten use cases. One well-handled intent beats five rough flows.
- A Deep Agent Studio account (signup with no credit card)
- Your procedure in one sentence: who to verify, what to check, what to do
- A WhatsApp Business number or, failing that, the web widget for testing
- Two or three real customer messages, with typos and short phrasing
Step 1 — Create your workspace (2 minutes)
Sign up, name your company, land on the dashboard. Each company gets an isolated workspace: bots, conversations, intents, knowledge base, quotas. If you were invited through a link, you join the existing workspace with the right role. Just check that your assistant name, avatar and brand color are set: your customers talk to your service, not a generic tool.
Step 2 — Describe your procedure in plain language (5 minutes)
This is the heart of Deep Agent Studio. Open the flow builder and write your instruction as you would to a human. An example that works very well:
If a customer reports a double charge, verify identity by SMS, check the invoice, then refund or hand off to an advisor with intent and history.
AI then generates the blocks: incoming-message trigger, intent detection, SMS-code security, invoice check via API, refund branch, advisor branch. You adjust each block visually: thresholds, messages, conditions. Test immediately with your real messages: short texts, typos, mixed topics. The agent must classify correctly despite the noise.
Step 3 — Connect WhatsApp and your APIs, test in the simulator (5 minutes)
Connect WhatsApp Business: that is where your customers already write. Then add your billing or order API, even read-only at first. SMS is used for OTP verification codes. Open the simulator and play three scenarios: the nominal case (confirmed double charge), the rejected case (identity not verified) and the out-of-scope case (unusual request). Each test must end either with a resolution and ticket number, or with a clean handoff. If a scenario fails, fix the block message, not the whole flow.
Step 4 — Publish, then monitor (3 minutes)
Publish on WhatsApp, keep the web widget as a second channel for observation. Track every week: conversation volume, share resolved with no handoff (aim for 70%+ on your first intent), first-reply time (seconds), emerging intents. This monitoring turns a prototype into a service: you see what customers really ask and where to act — a message to reword, an API to enrich, a case to hand off earlier.
The 4 mistakes that kill a first agent
- Trying to automate everything at once: start with one intent, one channel.
- Skipping identity verification on sensitive actions: refund, plan change, account access.
- Robotic messages: write short texts, with time, amount, ticket number.
- No human handoff: always plan the exit to an advisor with intent, identity and history.
15-minute checklist
- Workspace created, brand set (name, avatar, color)
- One flow generated from a plain-language instruction
- WhatsApp connected, SMS enabled for OTP
- Three simulator tests passed (nominal, rejected, out of scope)
- Published + dashboard watched during week one
FAQ
Do I need to code to create my agent? No. Procedures are written in plain language, blocks are adjusted visually, MCP tools plug in with no code. Code is only needed for your business APIs if they do not exist yet.
What if the agent is wrong? It must never invent a refund. When in doubt, it re-verifies or hands off with full context. Every exchange stays reviewable conversation by conversation.
What does getting started cost? Workspace creation needs no credit card. You then pay for usage (conversations, AI) and per-company options.
Does Deep Agent Studio replace my advisors? No: it absorbs repetitive work (billing, delivery, access) and your advisors keep tricky cases, with better input information. That is exactly what we cover in the handoff article.
